Quote Credit: Many of these quotes came from individuals who have finished the Barkley Marathon. Their stories are a great metaphor for the process of individuation. Each individual sets out to grow or evolve by becoming more aware and by finding meaning and understanding in their lives. One of the creators of the Barkley Marathons, Gary “Lazarus Lake” Cantrell stated in the 2014 documentary The Barkley Marathons, the race that eats its young,
“I think people who go through this are better for it, they are not made of better stock than other people, but they are better for what they have asked of themselves.”
This metaphoric statement mirrors my belief in what occurs for those who seek to grow with the aid of analysis.
